Thanks for sharing the journey, I've supervised a few self-funded PhDs and the extra resilience they have had to face (whether from the journey to enroll or the creative ways they have funded themselves - which usually gives them a unique and highly desired skill set) is a huge strength ive seen recognised by employers etc 💪
In all the analysis I’ve ever seen the only consistent qualities that leads to success, is persistence and resilience. As someone once joked, it took me 20 years to become an overnight success.
